These plan buttons are a local demo toggle for trying gated features in development — they store your plan in the browser and don't charge a card. Wiring real billing means adding a payment provider (e.g. Stripe Checkout + webhooks) and a database to store subscription status, checked server-side in each API route instead of trusting a value the client sends.
